16-01-2011 A big thank you!

Wauwie.... We are still catching our breath and we look with a big smile on our faces back to a wonderful evening on the Balfolk Fantasy Night.... Is was sooooooo cool!!! A big THANK YOU to all of you, dancers and listeners for all the enthousiasm, the dancing, the shouting, the headbanging (seriously! how cool is that?!), the joy...!!! In the beginning it was maybe even a little to crowded for dancing, but we didn't expect so many people would show. It made the view from the stage fantastic though (see the picture taken by Marco during the show)! A big thank you also to Kelten zonder Grenzen, Ball Noir, Zeno and DJ XXX, it was a great pleasure to share the stage with you! And a warm and wel earned applaus for our crew of course!: Wijnand (lights), Jen (VJ), Jens (roadie) and Suze, Jacq and Lisa (merchbabes). We are still filled with happiness and are going through a lot of photos :-) The pictures of Orfeo, taken by Kees Stravers, are already online at are photo page... go and have a look :-)

Exclusively for the Balfolk Fantasy Night we will bring some Eria d'Or cd's and t-shirts and Groot Feest t-shirts!

The band Eria d'Or no longer exists, but since there were members of Ball Noir, Kelten zonder Grenzen and Orfeo in it, we will bring their merchandise with us. Eria d'Or played for 10 years and among others they did a tour in Germany and Belgium and played a show together with Anathema in Tivoli (NL).  Examples of their music are still online at their website www.eriador.nl. For the Balfolk Fantasy Night we have a special price: Eria d'Or - The Black Well only costs 5,- euro's. The Eria d'Or shirts for men are black with the logo in silver-gray and the girlies have also a labyrinth underneath the logo (see picture).

The Groot Feest festival was the forerunner of Orfest. After 10 years the festival ended because too many people showed up and the festival got too big for our backyard. There are 10 Years of Groot Feest shirts and Groot Feest Stiltegebied shirts. All shirts of Eria d'Or and Groot Feest are on the Balfolk Fantasy Night only 5,- euro's.

08-01-2011 Balfolk Fantasy Night

Four befriended bands are ready for an evening full of balfolk! It will be an evening of extremes: tender mazurkas, rocking jigs, electronic beats and wild headbangers!!! All bands have balfolkmusic in common, but they bring it in different ways. Of course there is enough space in Tivoli so also non-balfolkdancers can enjoy the concert.

The evening will begin with a dance instruction, so everybody can join in dancing. After the dance instruction Kelten zonder Grenzen take it over. They will show you how two harps, a violin and a hurdy-gurdy can be very romantic but also very wild. They will bring two guest musicians with them: Rutger (ex-Eria d'Or and ex-Orfeo) on drums and Fieke (Leaf, Cesair) on accordeon, hammered dulcimer and hurdy gurdy.

Then Orfeo will take the stage for some of mixture of traditional and contemporary folk with rock/metal-influences. And they bring two new bandmemebr to the stage: Jesse on drums and Richard on bass guitar and bass clarinet.

After that Ball Noir will take more loud music with them. This band has found a unique balance between acoustic and electronic music. They played their first show on Summer Darkness 2010 (Utrecht, NL) and it was a big hit!

At last Zeno with his electronic beats, uillean pipes and samples and DJ X-X-X will close the night.

23-12-2010 Photos Archeon Midwinterfair

The Archeon Midwinterfair was fun! We were a little excited to play with two new bandmembers, but it worked out great! Coca, Renske and Kaat, thank you for being our merch-babes! And thanks to you all for being so enthousiastic and for the beautiful dancing!

Lies also played along on stage with the young talents of the folkband Amma. The tune, which was a medieval set, was dedicated to Tjerk Schipper who recently passed away. He was a friend and former bandmember of Lies and a former colleague of Sanne and Emma. We miss him very much! There wasn't an amplicication for the hurdy gurdy, but still it felt good to be on stage with Amma and it was an honour to play with them! The result can be seen on youtube:

In this tent also another band play: World Of Stone, with Tjarda on harp (a student of a really proud Lies!) with their own young view on folkmusic (think of Irish tunes and covers of Blackmore's Night). Also don't forget to check out the beautiful girls of Amma (saturday 13:00 hours at the Forumtent and sunday at 12:30 hours at the Muziektent). You could just meet a familiar face on their stage...
